How to travel to Estland
Airplane
- Many airlines fly cheap to Tallinn or Riga (from Riga another 4 hours in a luxury bus)
-
Lots of cheap airlines fly to Helsinki (Finland). Then you take the fast ferry to Tallinn. The flight takes 2 hours and the prices are from 80 Euros for a return. The ferry takes 1,5 hours to the centre of Tallinn en costs 35 Euros return. It is cheaper to travel with one of the big ferries, but then you have to take for granted a travel of 3 hours.
Drive by bus
-
There's a company named “Eurolines” which will take you to Estonia from multiple places in Germany and the Netherlands. The travel takes about 32 hours. The bus drives through Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. They have got special prices, but a normal price won't be much cheaper than a flight. If you don't want to visit other cities it doesn't make sense to choose this way of travel, the plane is cheaper and easier.
Drive by car
-
You can drive through Danmark and Stockholm (Sweden) and there take the ferry to Tallinn. The crossing takes about 12 hours. It's a long but very nice trip, during which you have the chance to see Danmark and Sweden. We advise this travel if you want to go by car. The ferry goes every day and is a night boat, on which you can both rest and enjoy the bars and restaurants. There's also a disco and show-ballet supported by live music on board. The crossing costs about 150 Euros (car, 2 persons and a cabin).
-
You can also take a ferry that departs from Rostock (Germany), which will take you to Tallinn in about 24 hours. This trip will cost you about 200 Euros (car, 2 persons).
-
It's also possible to drive through Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia to Estonia. It would take about 28 to 30 hours and shows you much from the countries you are driving through. It's a quite cheap trip because of the low gasoline prices in Poland and the baltic states.
You will only need a valid passport or an ID-card. The medical standards are up to Western-European standards.
